Kuwait's Social, Economic Life Returns To Normal In Ramadhan
After two years of lockdowns and curfews due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Ramadhan this year seemed to have returned to normal, as people returned to gatherings and to normal shopping after a two-year hiatus.
According to Dr. Saud Al-Ghanem, professor of sociology at Kuwait University (KU), "Psychologically, most people feel positive during this year's Ramadhan because coronavirus restrictions have been lifted, encouraging them to return to their normal Ramadhan practices."
Al-Ghanem told KUNA that people would notice more traffic on the roads, more visitors, and more shoppers. During Ramadhan, too, the economy will prosper, he added, as people tend to purchase more accessories, food and clothing typically associated with this holy month.
KU psychology professor Khodhr Al-Baroun said that families would gather more this year for Iftars (breakfast meals), which will make "this blessed month quite different from the rest of the year.".
As a result of the pandemic anxiety fading, family gatherings will increase among friends and family members, he told KUNA.
The Director of Ahmadi medical center, Dr. Ahmad Al-Shatti, has urged people to follow healthy lifestyles during Ramadhan in order to lose weight and improve their health.
Families are urged to keep their children away from kitchens to prevent accidents. Worshippers should wear masks in mosques, and people should avoid crowds in general, said Al-Shatti. Kuwait has vaccinated 85 percent of its population, but people must follow health guidelines.
