Kuwaits New E-passport Complies With The Highest International Security Standards
Kuwait's new electronic passport (e-passport) complies with the highest international security standards, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced on Tuesday.
In a press conference, the MoI's Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passport Affairs Major General Sheikh Mazen Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah said that the ministry has begun issuing the e-passports to coincide with the country's national festivities.
On the initiative, he said it represents efforts by the MoI to embrace the latest technological means that facilitate e-service provision. Moreover, Sheikh Mazen revealed that the new passports have been accentuated with a smart chip that carries the citizen's personal details, noting that those below 12 years of age are exempt from the process of biometric registration.
Meanwhile, Director General of the MoI's General Department of Information Systems Major General Ali Al-Maili said that the project had been completed with efficiency and in collaboration with global companies.
Similarly, the MoI's Director General of Public Relations Brigadier Adel Al-Hashash noted that six centers interspersed throughout the country have been authorized to issue the e-passports.
