Kuwait’s Ministry Of Islamic Affairs Terminates 74 Employees
In an effort to curb marginal employment, the Ministry of Endowment and Islamic Affairs sent a letter to a contracting company it works with demanding the termination of 74 employees working across different departments, local media reported.
The termination lists include citizens, expats and stateless persons, also known as Bidoon. Those on the list have been notified that their services will end in three-months.
In addition, the company contracted by the Minister informed the expat employees that the three-month period ends on May 31 and that they will need to review and readjust their residency permits before the date.
Public sector cutbacks
In recent months, a large number of expats have been terminated from government jobs as Kuwait is working towards creating a 100 per cent Kuwaiti work force in the public sector, a 2018 governmental policy known as Kuwaitisation.
In January, the Minister of Trade and Commerce at the time, revealed that the Civil Service Bureau has drawn up a report to reduce the number of expats working in the public sector in order to achieve Kuwaitisation.
