19 May 2022 Kuwait

Kuwait's health minister lauded the United Nations' atomic watchdog's efforts on Wednesday to ensure the safety of employees exposed to radioactive material, as well as steps made to reduce the environmental effect of such chemicals.

Dr Khaled Al-Saeed stated his ministry is willing to work with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to support such activities on a local level, telling visiting IAEA Deputy Director-General Dr Najat Mokhtar that such action was required.

The IAEA is eager to help member nations benefit from its Zoonotic Disease Integrated Action (ZODIAC) project, which aims to boost global responses to future pandemics, according to Mokhtar, who also serves as the UN body's nuclear sciences and applications chief.- KUNA
