Kuwait's Airfares Rise By 70-150%

In some cases, Kuwait has reported an increase of 70% to 150 percent in the price of air tickets.

KUNAH reported that Kuwaiti tourists chose the UK, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and Egypt as their main holiday destinations this year, with high demand for tickets.

Kuwait Airways' Corporate Communication and Public Relations Director, Wael Al Hasawi, said more flights were needed during Eid to accommodate more passengers.

Al Hasawi began by saying Kuwaiti travellers were interested in exploring new destinations such as Nice in France, Mykonos in Greece, Salalah in Oman, and Izmir in Turkey.

Hussen Al Sulaiteen, the board member for the union of tourism and travel agencies in Kuwait, says ticket prices have increased by 150 percent from KD300 to KD400 ($979.6 to $1,306).

DGCA reports that 352,140 passengers are expected to travel to and from Kuwait International Airport over the holiday weekend.

He noted that 76 additional flights would be offered during Eid, which takes place from April 28 to May 7.
