Kuwaiti Wins Who Anti-smoking Award

Secretary-General of Kuwait Society for Preventing Smoking and Cancer Anwar Borahma has won a World Health Organization (WHO) award in recognition of his anti-smoking efforts.
Borahma was among the WHO’s no-tobacco award winners of Eastern Mediterranean Region for 2020.

Every year, WHO recognizes individuals or organizations in each of the six WHO Regions for their accomplishments in the area of tobacco control. This recognition takes the form of WHO Director-General Special Recognition Award and World No Tobacco Day Awards.

Speaking to KUNA on the WHO’s prize, Dr. Amal Al-Yehia, the rapporteur of the Health Ministry’s National Anti-Smoking Program, commended Borahma’s win of the WHO prize as a source of joyfulness and pride.
“We are proud of Mr. Borahma’s award. Yet, we stress all efforts to protect health and combat smoking in all forms and manifestations,” she said.
As a member of the antismoking committee, he has been spearheading great efforts since 1989 to raise public awareness of the hazards of smoking in Kuwait, Al-Yehia pointed out.

Kuwait Society for Preventing Smoking and Cancer promotes awareness of the dangers of smoking tobacco to protect all citizens, especially children and the elderly, from this scourge.
