Kuwaiti Students Flock To Egypt – Medical Field Demand Rises

Egyptian medical faculties are currently witnessing mass number of Kuwaiti students who are hoping to obtain scholarship and enroll in the the first semester of the new academic year at a time the admission rate decreased to 85 percent, reports Al-Qabas daily. In an exclusive statement to the daily, Fresh Group Leader at the National Union of Kuwaiti Students (NUKS) chapter in Egypt Saud Al-Enezi confirmed the increasing demand among Kuwaiti students to enroll in Egyptian universities. He disclosed that more than 500 new students have applied for admission, and it is expected this will continue until the end of the registration period on Oct 31. He attributed the high demand for admission to medical faculties to the announcement of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) that Kuwait needs medical professionals.

He explained the Egyptian university system has attractive features as follows: total period of study is five years instead of six years, lower admission rate, strength of medical faculties in Egypt as they focus on both the theoretical and practical aspects of the course, and they have university hospitals with various specializations that provide an ideal environment for students to practice their profession.

On the other hand, Head of the Association of New Students in Egyptian Universities Abdullah Al-Kandari revealed that the launching of the ‘Study in Egypt’ initiative for the second year in a row helped Kuwaiti students overcome a number of obstacles. He said this is manifested in the smooth registration and enrollment procedures, while the turnout of students has been increasing since the beginning of the registration period. He added the admission requirements include copies of passport and high school certificate or its equivalent and decision of the Central Department for Student Affairs which nominates students to their first choice of university according to the number of available slots in Egyptian universities within three to six working days.
