Despite the huge challenges brought about by the coronavirus pandemic; the academic life of about 21,000 Kuwaiti students enrolled in various universities in the Arab Republic of Egypt was not affected, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Most of these students, who returned home during the evacuation phase, affirmed their readiness to continue their studies in the Egyptian universities once the airports are open and restrictions are eased.

In an exclusive statement to the daily, President of the National Union of Kuwaiti Students in Egypt Ahmed Al-Shammari disclosed that most of the Kuwaiti students in Egypt returned home at the beginning of the evacuation phase. He affirmed all of these students underwent institutional and home quarantine, stressing none of the Kuwaiti students from Egypt tested positive for coronavirus.

He added all of these students are in good health and their return to Kuwait did not affect their studies. Al-Shammari disclosed the students in the first, second and third years submitted research papers in exchange for the scheduled exams and in compliance with the decision of the Supreme Council of Universities.

He said the medical college students took exams online; while the graduating students are supposed to take their final exams next month, but their exams were postponed until October.

He added the Kuwaiti Cultural Office in Egypt and Egyptian university departments have coordinated their efforts to overcome all obstacles in front of graduating students.

He said the postponement of the exams of Kuwaiti students was approved prior to the meeting of the Supreme Council of Universities, which confirmed cooperation in this regard.

He also advised students, who want to postpone their exams, to register on the website of the Kuwaiti cultural attaché; clarifying the postponement will not lead to additional tuition fees and the concerned students will neither be marked ‘failure’ nor asked to retake the courses.
