Kuwaiti Poker Player Arrested In Spain On Charges Of Drug And Currency Smuggling

After covering the matter with a veil of secrecy over the past few days, the customs authorities on the Spanish island of Ibiza recently announced that they had arrested a professional Kuwaiti poker player on charges of possession and smuggling of drugs and various currencies, Al-Rai daily reported.

According to the newspaper “Periodeco de Ibiza”, customs authorities arrested the 33-year-old Kuwaiti upon his arrival to the island early last Friday on a flight from Los Angeles.

The newspaper quoted an informed source saying that 10 different types of recreational drugs were found in one of the bags of the Kuwaiti traveler, including cocaine, hashish, shabu, ecstasy, and other psychotropic substances, and cash from various currencies, including 100 Kuwaiti dinars, and 6220 euros were also found. 1,785 US dollars, 485 pounds sterling, and more than 100,000 Thai baht.

The newspaper pointed out that the Kuwaiti suspect has been a professional poker gambler for 10 years, and has earned more than 3.4 million dollars in his career so far, and that he was one of 30 other poker players who arrived with him on the same plane.

The newspaper stated that the Kuwaiti suspect is the only passenger whom the customs authorities announced that they had arrested.
