Kuwaiti Embassy Urges Citizens To Comply With Swiss Ban On Veil

The Republic and Canton of Ticino in Switzerland announced a ban on wearing the veil (Niqab/burqa) in public places from July 1. The Kuwaiti Embassy issued a statement urging citizens to comply with the Swiss laws to avoid any confrontation.

Women wearing the niqab in breach of the Swiss law could be fined 1000 Swiss Franc (CHF).

The embassy said that veiled women who refuse to take off the niqab will face tougher fines.

Located in southern Switzerland, the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino, which borders Italy includes Lugano, Locarmo, Ascona, Bellinzona, Chiasso and Mendrisio.
