As part of growing cooperation between the two countries, a new batch of thousands of Indian nurses is expected to arrive in Kuwait shortly, an Indian envoy said.

Al Rai newspaper quoted Indian Ambassador to Kuwait Sibi George as saying at a recent Indian mango festival that the newcomers will join private hospitals in Kuwait as part of efforts to increase the number of Indian nurse workers in the health sector of the country.

He observed that the relationship between Kuwait and India in the health sector has significantly strengthened during the fight against COVID-19.

As well as Kuwaiti government and health insurance hospitals, the Indian embassy seeks to engage more Indian nurses.

A memorandum of understanding relating to the recruitment of Indian domestic workers in Kuwait is to be implemented in the next few weeks, the diplomat added.

Kuwait's 3.6 million foreign residents, which includes nearly 3.4 million Indians, is home to nearly 3.4 million Indian expats.
