Kuwait To Launch 20 Mobile Vaccination Units

05 January 2021 Coronavirus

The Director of Public Relations and Media at the Ministry of Health, Dr Ghada Ibrahim, has announced that 20 mobile units will soon be launched to vaccinate people who are unable to leave their homes due to severe health conditions, Al Jarida reported.

Ibhrahim said in a press statement that the mobile vaccination units will be targeted at those who are bedridden, people with special needs and anybody that has a severe illness that prevents them from travelling to the vaccination headquarters at Al Mishref fairground.

She added that the Ministry will be keeping track of the number of people that will need access to mobile units so that they can allocate an appropriate number for each governorate.

Progress in vaccination process

In other news, Ibhrahim said that next week a second hall at the fairground will open to serve as an additional vaccination centre. Currently, hall 5 is operating as the main headquarters for the vaccination campaign.

Kuwait began its vaccination campaign on December 24, after it received the first batch of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, which included 150,000 doses.

Those that are being given priority in the first batch of the vaccine are frontline workers, medical professionals, people suffering from chronic illnesses and those above the age of 65.

The Ministry of Health created a website that allows those wanting to take the vaccine to pre-register so that the government can indicate who should be given priority, a person’s medical history and have an estimate of how many doses they should order.

Storage and logistics

The Mishref fairground has been prepared and organised to serve as the vaccination headquarters. Given that the Pfizer vaccine needs to be stored at -70 degrees Celsius temperature, special fridges have been placed at the fairground to ensure that the vaccine is being stored correctly.

Around 400 employees have been trained to administer the vaccine, operate as administrative staff and ensure everybody is adhering to the health and safety measures put in place by the Ministry of Health.
