Kuwait: Royal Court Officials To Face Probe Over Public Money

Kuwait’s state anti-corruption watchdog has said it has referred two officials at the royal court to investigations over suspected mishandling of public money.

The Anti-Corruption Authority added that as part of efforts to combat corruption, it has referred a leading official and a supervisor at the royal court and other suspects to public prosecution accused of facilitating seizure of public money.

The watchdog, officially known as Nazha (integrity) did not provide details about the cases.

“Nazaha stresses its determination to continue efforts and measures related to examining and gathering evidence in all serious reports it receives,” the agency added, according to Kuwaiti newspaper Al Anba.

Highlighting the role of whistleblowers in exposing corruption, Nazaha reassured them about providing them with maximum protection and secrecy.

Set up in 2016, Nazaha had previously referred officials in different sectors to prosecution on similar suspicions.

In recent years, Kuwait has ramped up its efforts to fight corruption. In 2019, the country’s top court sentenced a Kuwaiti ambassador to six years in prison and ordered his removal from post after convicting him in a case involving state money embezzlement.
