Kuwait Restarts Flights With India, Egypt, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan And Sri Lanka
Kuwait reallowed commercial flights with India, Egypt, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka on Wednesday after the six countries were restricted in light of COVID-19 restrictions. The decision was made in a cabinet meeting which underlined that flights with these countries would be subject to measures identified by Kuwait’s ministerial coronavirus emergency committee.
The Directorate- General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is said to have set a ‘quota’ for 29 airlines operating at the Kuwait International Airport quota based on a decision to increase the operating capacity to 7,500 passengers per day, while the quota for some destinations has been increased while for others it remains the same.
Increase
The sources familiar with the issue told the daily the DGCA decided to increase the number of incoming flights from Dubai, Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria, based on the requests submitted by airlines operating on those lines, noting that the number of seats for flights was increased for flights arriving from Turkey and Dubai to about 150-180 passengers per flight, according to the total capacity of the plane. The sources stated incoming flights from Abu Dhabi and Sharjah are given the nod to bring in 50 passengers of 35, for Oman Air it is 50 passengers and two flights per week, and the Sudanese Airlines 50 passengers per week. The same sources pointed out the Middle East Airlines raised its operating capacity to 6 flights per week, with 160 passengers arriving per day, instead of 3 flights per week, while the sources said the quota of Jordan is increased to 300 passengers per week. The number of passengers for flights coming from Doha and Bahrain remain unchanged. The sources revealed the Kuwait Airways Corporation will operate one flight per week, starting from next September 11, and to Amsterdam two flights per week from the Sept 8. The sources said changes in the operating quota at the airport will reduce ticket prices, which have witnessed significant increases during the last period.
