Kuwait Plans To Vaccinate Children Against Covid-19

Kuwait plans to vaccinate children aged from 12 to 15 years against COVID-19 soon as part of an accelerated inoculation drive, a health official has said.

Khalid Al Saeed, a member of the Health Ministry’s supreme committee for vaccines, added that administering the vaccination to pregnant women still hinges on findings of safety studies.

“Foster women are, meanwhile, permitted to get the vaccination against COVID-19,” he told Al Jarida newspaper.

“Inoculation is the only way out of the pandemic crisis we are experiencing Vaccination will bring us closer to community immunity and return to normal life,” Al Saeed added.

Kuwait, a Gulf country of 4.7 million population, kicked off mass vaccinations against COVID-19 in December.

Mobile vaccination units

In an attempt to accelerate inoculation, authorities last month launched mobile vaccination units targeting workers in mosques and in different commercial activities having direct contacts with the general public.

Nearly 35,000 employees have since got the jabs, including workers at cooperatives, mosques, the banking sector and cinemas, spokesman for the Kuwaiti Health Ministry Dr Abdullah Al Sanad said Sunday.

The ministry Sunday started the second stage of the mobile vaccination campaign targeting workers at central commercial complexes across Kuwait.

“This service is part of the Health Ministry’s efforts to confront this pandemic and expand the beneficiary base from vaccination,” Dr Al Sanad said.

Kuwait so far has confirmed a total of 284,076 virus cases and 1,635 deaths.
