Kuwait Olympic Committee Chief Touts Auto Race Progress

President of the Kuwaiti Olympic Committee Sheikh Fahad Al-Nasser Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on Saturday commended Kuwait’s participation in an international auto race in Rome, as reflecting the progress of this sport in the Gulf country.

He made the remark to KUNA while visiting the Kuwaiti national auto team, accompanied by Kuwaiti Ambassador to Italy Sheikh Azzam Al-Sabah and Deputy Director General of the Public Authority for Sports Dr Sager Al-Mulla.

“We are happy to be here with our brothers taking part in the race, who hoist the flag of Kuwait and represent Arab and Gulf auto sport in this new world championship,” he said.

Sheikh Fahad Al-Nasser said he was impressed by the zealousness and high spirit of the Kuwaiti national team.

Speaking highly of the performance of Kuwaiti racers in all activities, revealing that Kuwait wants to play host to the second version of the competition.

Commenting on his meeting with President of the International Automobile Federation Jean Todt, he said it was a good opportunity to have consultations about the development of Kuwaiti auto sport.

He added that he had agreed with Todt that Kuwait should seek to take part in and organize more international sports events in order to better promote itself.

He pointed out that his committee throws much weight behind auto sport and provide support to racers.

On his part, Kuwaiti Ambassador to Italy Sheikh Azzam Al-Sabah, speaking to KUNA, welcomed Sheikh Nasser’s significant tour as a sign of backing to Kuwaiti athletes.

He said that this visit reflects his keenness on supporting and encouraging Kuwaiti athletes and youth in general with a view to propping up the sports movement in this Gulf country.

Up to 92 drivers are participating in six types of racing competitions, namely GT, Formula 4, Touring Car, Formula 4 and Drift.

Under the Kuwait Flag, eight Kuwaiti racers are partaking, along with competitors from 21 countries.
