Kuwait: Non-kuwaitis Allowed To Resume Travelling To Kuwait February 21

16 February 2021 Travel

As per the Kuwait government decision, non-Kuwaitis will be able to travel to Kuwait as of February 21 after a two-week ban was put in place to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

This does not apply to the 35 ‘high risk countries’, as passengers travelling from those countries will still not be allowed to travel directly to Kuwait.

In addition, starting on February 21 all airline will have to bear the cost of the passengers’ PCR tests - 30 Kuwaiti dinars - which will be added automatically to the ticket price according to a circular issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The Kuwait airport is working on allocating PCR stations and on-site laboratories as all travellers arriving into Kuwait will need to conduct a COVID-19 test.

Hotel quarantine

Both citizens and residents looking to arrive in Kuwait from February 21 onwards will need to quarantine in a hotel for the first seven days at their own expense. Prior to their departure to Kuwait, all passengers must register on the Kuwait Mosafer application.

“Airlines will have to ensure that the passenger booking a ticket to Kuwait also has the necessary institutional hotel quarantine booking, and has other travel requirements including for PCR tests on landing in Kuwait,” Saad Al Otaibi, the spokesman of the DGCA said.

Earlier this week, the Hotel Owners Union submitted a proposed price list to the government for their approval.

The proposed price list suggests that each tier of hotels have a set weekly-price as follows: First tier (5 star hotels) single room KD270 and double KD330 with each meal costing 10KD, second tier (4 star hotels) single room KD180 and double KD240 with each meal costing KD8 and finally third tier (3 star hotels) single room KD120 and double KD180 with each meal costing KD6.

Hotels are working on designating certain floors or sections of the hotel for quarantining guests and all meals will be provided in disposable containers to prevent transmission of the COVID-19 virus.

Once passengers are done with their seven-day quarantine at the hotel of their choice, they must quarantine for an additional seven days at home.
