Moi Installed 9 Mobile Cameras On Streets And Main Roads
The Ministry of Interior has installed 9 mobile cameras on the streets and main roads, reports Al-Rai daily. The daily quoting security sources said that the task of these cameras is to monitor the roads and highways and help traffic police control the traffic jams and congestion on the roads in the quickest possible time in addition to monitor those who are using the shoulder lanes, but not to monitor the speed.
The sources said, the ministry plans to double the number of speed cameras on the roads from 570 to about 1,000 cameras, to reduce traffic accidents, and curb recklessness of motorists who threaten the safety of road users, especially after seeing an increase in serious accidents in the recent past.
The sources added that the ministry is waiting for the arrival of a new batch of cameras and will be installed after the completion of the road projects and bridges.
The sources confirmed that doubling the number of cameras came after some citizens submitted proposals and solutions to reduce recklessness and carelessness, in parallel with demand by the Interior and Defense Committee of the National Assembly to exert more efforts to reduce the number of accidents which have resulted in the death of 450 people last year, most of them young.
