Kuwait Keen On Judicial Independence - Minister

Minister of Justice, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Fahad Al-Afasi said Monday the State of Kuwait was keen to include judicial independence in the constitution.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah deeply believes in importance of judiciary and public prosecutors, as well as his desire to remove all obstacles facing their functions, Justice Mohammad bin Naji, chairman of the Court of Appeals, said in a speech on behalf of Al-Afasi.

He made the remarks at a ceremony at Kuwait institute for judicial studies to honor former board members and the new public prosecutors. The Justice Ministry is dedicated to the service of the judges and prosecutors, he said.

Kuwait, added bin Naji, paid a great attention to training in the judicial field which contributed to the establishment of the judicial studies institute some 25 years ago. Bin Naji called on fresh prosecutors to follow foot-steps of their predecessors.

Justice Uwayyed Al-Thuwaimer, Secretary of Court of Appeals and institute director general, commended members of the technical office for preparing curricula for the training courses, as well as supervising their implementation.
