Kuwait has the highest rates of nurses, doctors and hospitals, and the lowest neonatal and under-five mortality rates, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), said Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health Dr Fawaz Al-Rifai, reports Al-Rai daily.
“We are proud to have a genetic survey program for genetic and metabolic diseases in Kuwait. We are detecting 22 cases of genetic diseases early,” Rifai said on the sidelines of the 66th session of the Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean in Tehran.
He expressed his satisfaction that Kuwait has enjoyed the highest rates of nurses, doctors and hospitals, pointing to an increasing number of nurses over the past 10 years, in line with international standards. He pointed out that he addressed in his interventions during the meeting, what Kuwait enjoys in the field of health care for newborns and children under the age of five and adolescents, especially the reduction of neonatal mortality significantly in the past period.
“There was a discussion paper at the meeting on non-communicable diseases including diabetes, obesity and drug use,” he said. “There are great efforts in Kuwait to reduce obesity, promote physical activity, and ensure air quality and other efforts.”
Al-Rifai described the level of the meeting as “excellent and fruitful,” saying, “There is continuous cooperation between Kuwait and the Eastern Mediterranean countries to ensure the quality of health for all citizens and residents in Kuwait and we look forward to joint cooperation with all countries in the areas of health for the benefit of our patients.”
