Experts Warn Strongly About Fears Of Continued Us Escalation Against Iran
As the prospect of imminent military confrontation between America and Iran mounts, and the beating of the drums of war in the region are heard from a distance, questions are increasing about what is happening, what is expected to happen in the coming days, and what are the likely scenarios and their negative or positive impacts in the region, reports Al-Qabas daily.
The Al-Qabas daily got the views of a number of political science professors at Kuwait University and political experts and analysts on this matter, and they have warned strongly about the fears of continued US escalation against Iran and its development into a military confrontation.
They said that the indicators point to the imminent military confrontation, which requires the Gulf countries to exercise caution and to provide ‘preparations’ for the upcoming war. They also warned of dormant Iranian cells in the countries of the region, which Tehran may ‘activate’ in the event of a military confrontation as a response to pressure the countries of the region to stop the war.
They said to defuse the tension in the region the politicians in Iran must change its policy towards its neighbors (Gulf countries) and stop supporting terrorist organizations and end the interference in the internal affairs of neighboring countries. According to political analyst Fahad Al-Shlaimi, the escalation in the region took several directions. It began when US President Donald Trump declaring the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization, followed by an escalation of the economic embargo, followed by a military escalation by sending the aircraft carrier and frigate to the region which all point to US President Trump’s decision to escalate the crisis.
Al-Shlaimi added the US President is displaying his power in the Gulf region and is trying to show his ability to make a decision on the war, while there is no Gulf state that wants to go to war with Iran, which should change its policies in the region and stop its interventions and support for terrorist organizations. “The US-Iranian rivalry over Iraq has become very important in the region, so the escalation will continue and will not stop.
The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which is looming, will cause oil prices to rise to $90.
Warned
This is unacceptable to neither the Americans nor the Europeans, so they have warned Iran to rely on international resolutions and the law of the high seas, which provides for freedom of merchant ships.
He pointed out that the reality is that US military capabilities are bigger and stronger than Iran’s capabilities, although Iran is capable of harming the American side, by striking the US embassy and military bases in Iraq, as well as Iran’s ability to deploy floating naval mines, the type that were seen in the mid-1980s when Iran fought a tanker war.
He said that the Gulf countries have agreements with the American side to allow the passage of military forces and therefore Iran must understand that there are alliances between the Gulf States and America, putting the option of calm in the hands of the Iranian side.
He added, therefore, this continuous escalation will not end unless Iran abandons its aggressive policies in the region. The head of the Kuwait Center for Strategic Studies Sami Al-Faraj that intelligence and wisdom should prevail in dealing with this escalation, because Iran wants the countries to put pressure on America to ease the embargo and the abolition of sanctions on Tehran.
Al-Faraj said that the confrontation is on the way, according to the latest indications, and within the strategic planning, the Gulf countries must work to expect the war and be ready for it, if it occurs.
He called on the Kuwaiti government to exercise caution against the American-Iranian escalation, saying, the official authorities must prepare for the war, equip the emergency teams, activate the role of the Ministry of the Interior and the National Guard to strengthen the home front, and prepare for the possibility of any skirmishes Political activist, former Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, Dr Abdul Wahid Al-Khalfan said the impending war between America and Iran will have many negative effects, especially on the neighboring countries in terms of economic, human and other aspects.
Al-Khalfan said: “Everyone has followed what some international stock exchanges have witnessed recently in terms of financial losses due to the mutual threats between the two parties, and this has implications for the Gulf economy, in addition to some Arab countries, if things get worse.” He said that Kuwait enjoys a peaceful policy with all countries of the world and has a central role in peace and is witnessed by all, warning that wars bring untold tragedies.
