Kuwait Experiencing Dust Due To Northwestern Winds

23 September 2018 Weather in Kuwait

Dust, caused by northwestern winds from Iraq, had resulted in low visibility in some areas, said a Kuwaiti meteorologist Saturday.

The dust has reduced horizontal vision to less than 1,000 meters and it is moving towards inner residential areas, indicated Abdulaziz Al-Qarawi. The meteorologist affirmed that weather conditions would improve in the few upcoming hours.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Saturday urged road users to be cautious of the dust and unstable weather conditions causing low visibility in several areas.

In a statement, the ministry urged people to call 112 in case of emergency or assistance. In the meantime, equinox, the event where the duration of daytime and nighttime are equal, is expected to occur globally on Sunday, said Kuwaiti astronomer and historian Adel Al-Saadoun.

Speaking to KUNA, Al-Saadoun said that in Kuwait, the equinox would be on Sept 27, when sunrise is expected at 05:39 am local time, while sunset follows 12 hours later.

The equinox is the point at which the center of the visible Sun is directly above the Equator, it occurs twice each year around 20 March and Sept 22-23.
