Kuwait Expected To Bring Back Almost 50,000 Citizens From April 19
Kuwait is expected to bring back almost 50,000 citizens stranded abroad from April 19 due to suspension of flights globally over coronavirus concerns, the prime minister Sheikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah said recently.
The grand repatriation which will begin on Sunday is expected to be carried out in five phases with the first phase from April 19-20 covering Kuwaitis who completed medical treatment abroad along with their companions, also tourists or those who were on official assignments.
The second phase (April 23) will cover patients who need medical beds and life support equipment. While the third phase (April 25-May 1) will bring back Kuwaiti students, a large number from US and the fourth phase (May 3-4) for diplomats intending to return and the fifth and final phase (May 6-7) for all other segments.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has put the plan in place over the past few weeks urging Kuwaitis to register with the respective embassies where they were stranded.
Most Kuwaitis have been put up in hotels until they could be flown back as per the directive of H H the Amir to ensure every Kuwaiti citizen is taken care of and brought home safely.
Kuwait has suspended commercial flights from March 13 and only a few flights to bring back stranded Kuwaitis were from London, Paris, Madrid, Frankfurt, Cairo and Bahrain.
All those arriving by evacuation flights will be tested and quaratined in several locations around Kuwait that include 5 star hotels and resorts as per the health protocol to ensure that they are free from the coronavirus.
