Emergency Teams Succeed In Getting Rid Of Locusts
Deputy Director at the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR), Dalal Rajab has assured the citizens the emergency teams have succeeded in getting rid of the desert locusts which invaded the Wafra farms by spraying insecticides and pesticides, reports Al-Rai daily.
On the sidelines of the tour of the Wafra farms, Rajab explained that the PAAAFR, in cooperation with the coordinating committee dealt with the locusts to protect the farm produce and prevented losses for the farmers.
The officials said the committee comprised personnel from the ministries of Interior and Defense, the National Guard and the Kuwait Fire Service Directorate (KFSD) and the Environment Public Authority which exerted great efforts to control locusts through employing about 230 staff members, which were divided into more than 12 control teams extending from the southern border to the Wafra farms.
She pointed out that the appropriate spraying time was in the morning before sunrise and before sunset. She pointed out the firefighters are currently working with the help of the security forces to spray locusts infested areas along the border to prevent them from invading the Sulaibiya farms.
Earlier, Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Mohammad Al-Jabri had stressed the need of concerted efforts by the concerned state departments to eradicate the swarms of locusts in Al-Wafra area Minister Jabri visited the farms near the southern borders with Saudi Arabia to inspect in the presence Kuwait farmers union.
