Kuwait Downsizes Attendance At Marriage Contract Sessions
Kuwait has decided to limit presence at marriage contract ceremonies as part of increasing restrictions to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The Justice Ministry in the Gulf country has issued an administrative decree on health conditions which the mazuns or marriage registrars must observe while conducting the matrimony contracts, an office at the ministry said.
By virtue of the decree with an immediate effect, the mazun must limit presence at the marriage contract session to the would-be husband, a family member, a guardian of the wife-to-be and two witnesses, spokesman for the Justice Ministry Isa Al Beshr added.
The mazun is committed to ensuring strict abidance of those on hand by precautionary measures including social distancing.
“If the attendees exceed this number, or in case of health violations, the mazun must refrain from conducting the marriage contract,” the official said.
Violators will be liable to legal and disciplinary procedures, he added without elaborating.
Kuwait has recently experienced an upward trend in coronavirus infections, recording so far a tally of 179,488 cases and 1,014 related fatalities.
The situation has prompted authorities to impose a string of restrictions, including a temporary ban on the entry of non-Kuwaitis to the country.
