Kuwait Ambassador Receives Prestigious Indian Universal Human Rights Promotion Award 2016

Kuwait Ambassador to India Fahad Al-Awadhi has been conferred the prestigious Indian Universal Human Rights Promotion Award 2016. The ambassador received the award Saturday at the 17th World Human Rights Congress organized by the Indian Institute of Human Rights in New Delhi on the occasion of United Nations Human Rights Day. Al-Awadhi, who was the guest of honor at the event, released on the occasion a book titled “Human Rights in State of Kuwait’ brought out by Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Addressing esteemed participants at the event including ambassadors and high level Indian dignitaries, he pointed out that successive Kuwaiti governments have taken a number of important decisions and implemented the same since the promulgation of the Constitution of Kuwait in 1962 to protect the human rights. He added that the Kuwaiti Constitution, which states that the religon of the state is Islam, and the Islamic Shari’a shall be a main source of legislation, provides protection of all human rights necessary for the creation of an enlightened human civilization.

The ambassador further underlined that the Kuwaiti leadership have taken all necessary measures for the protection of human rights and have implemented all the measures to safeguard the security and safety of all Kuwaiti citizens in addition to promoting fraternity and mutual co-existence. He added that Article 14 of the Kuwaiti Constitution provides that education is a fundamental requisite for the progress of society, assured and promoted by the state. This is fundamentally important for the protection and promotion of human rights and the cooperative coexistence of all sections of society through adoption and promulgation of major agreements dealing with the question of human rights, he added.

The ambassador also stressed that the state of Kuwait considers justice, liberty, and equality as the pillars of society and cooperation and mutual help are the firmest bonds between citizens, adding that security, tranquility, and equal opportunities for citizens are safeguarded by the Constitution. Externally, the Kuwaiti Constitution provides for building a peaceful environment and prohibiting offensive war. On his part, Director of Indian Institute of Human Rights Dr Rahul Rai commended the contribution of Kuwait in the fi eld of human rights and urged the global community to consolidate and strengthen efforts to safeguard human rights in a world witnessing increasing human rights violations.
