Hike In Flight Tickets Prices Reported
Head of the Kuwait Travel & Tourism Agencies Association (KTTAA) Mohammad Al-Mutairi revealed that Kuwait could get added to the list of countries from where people will be allowed to travel to European Union countries starting from next week, reports Al-Anba daily.
He affirmed that 50 percent of the airlines operating at Kuwait International Airport, which is approximately 50 companies, have requested resumption of commercial flight operations by early August, indicating that this number is expected to increase.
In a press statement, Al-Mutairi stressed that the beaches of countries such as Turkey, Greece, Cyprus and Spain could become the most popular destinations for Kuwaitis during the coming period especially after spending long periods under lockdown inside their homes.
Al-Mutairi revealed that the prices of flight tickets during the coming period, following the resumption of operations in Kuwait International Airport at a capacity of 30 percent as well as in consideration of permission for only 100 flights and 10,000 passengers divided equally between departures and arrivals, will be significantly high because the supply will be less than the demand.
He urged the health authorities and the management of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to increase that percentage, as the number of flights that leave Kuwait International Airport since the resumption of commercial chartered flights on June 8 is equal to the number of flights that will leave early next month, at an average of 5 thousand passengers per day.
Al-Mutairi indicated that hotel prices have also become subject to significant change, as they change every two weeks or so, compared to how things were before the COVID-19 crisis when the prices were fixed and used to change mostly on an annual basis, adding that this is due to the erratic change of the supply and demand curve which affects the prices weekly or monthly at most
