Krcs Volunteers Helping Those Affected By Heavy Rains, Floods

Chairman of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Dr Hilal Al- Sayer stressed the importance of volunteers’ efforts in providing assistance to citizens and residents affected by the prevailing heavy rains and unstable weather conditions. Al-Sayer told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Saturday that the KRCS attaches great importance to activating its role in supporting the state organs and harnessing all its material and human resources to help those in need cope with crises and natural disasters.

He added that the KRCS volunteers continue to help citizens and residents until the end of the climatic fluctuations, praising efforts of the civil defense, which has made efforts to provide all sorts of assistance to the needy people who have been affected by the heavy rains and floods. He said that the KRCS declared a state of emergency and preparedness for this situation, stressing that it is ready to extend a helping hand with the help of its volunteers, workers and expertise for all affected throughout the day.

He pointed to the existence of full coordination between the KRCS and civil defense and all government agencies to implement measures to be able to overcome these conditions and evacuate citizens and residents from the affected sites to safe areas and provide assistance and healthcare for the injured and affected. Meanwhile, Ministry of Education announced Saturday that a number of schools are experiencing some technical problems after a wave of heavy rain gripping Kuwait since late Friday.

Classes at some schools with electrical problems may be suspended because “we do not want to risk our students’ lives,” said Ministry Acting Undersecretary Yousef Al-Najjar during an inspection tour at Al-Ahmadi Governorate. Al-Najjar affirms that work is still underway to clean schools that have experienced some problems, but the difficulty lies in how to access some others due to hard conditions on surrounding streets.

He points out that there is a meeting grouping the ministry officials with Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Dr Hamid Al-Azmi, due during the next few hours The officials will examine schools’ condition amid impact of the rainy weather.
