Knpc Fuel Stations Workers Demand Delayed Four Months Salary Payment

Employees of the petrol stations of the Kuwait National Petroleum Corporation (KNPC) recently held a strike in protest against the delay in payment of their salaries by their employer for the past four months, reports Al-Qabas daily. According to sources, the strike began in the southern fuel stations of the country, starting with Fahaheel, Raqqa, Ahmadi, Wafra and Sabah Al- Ahmad areas.

The strike affected most of the company’s fuel stations, where huge congestion and long queues of vehicles were witnessed throughout the day, sparking discontent and displeasure among citizens and expatriates. Six hours after the strike, the company announced on its Twitter account about the problem and apologized to its customers.

It read as follows – “Kuwait National Petroleum Corporation apologizes to its esteemed clients for the inconvenience in a number of its petrol stations, due to the delay of the contracting company responsible for the employees of these stations in paying their salaries’’. It affirmed that it is working on taking the necessary measures to resume services, and to guarantee the rights of its workers. In addition, several social media users posted and shared video clips about the congestion experienced in the fuel stations affected by the strike, insisting that the injustice against these workers is unacceptable. They urged the relevant authorities to end the case and restore the rights of the workers. Some among them called for Kuwaitization of the work in the fuel stations, especially the governmental ones, in order to avoid any disruption that could occur in the future
