Kga Continue Dominance Of The League
In week eight of the J. P. D’Mello Rolling Trophy, KIFF League organized by Kuwait Indian Football Federation and powered by “Gulf Cable & Electrical Co K.S.C.P,” Curtorcares United beat FC Sparx 3-1, Kuwait Goan Association (KGA) continued their dominance of the league with a 3-1 victory over Skynet Miracles FC, Goa Maroons and AVC Sports & Cultural Association drew 1-1 while Don Bosco Oratory easily beat DHL FC 5-0. All the matches were played at the Al Bayan Grounds on Friday, Nov 4, 2016.
KIFF created history as the first expatriate Federation to introduce head-sets for the referee and assistants during the third match between Goa Maroons and AVC. President Domnic Pereira along with all KIFF MC was ecstatic and hoped the new gear will help the referees in taking better control of the games in future. Agnelo D’Cunha of United Goan Centre (UGC) man behind the innovation to introduce the new system
In the first match at 7:00 am, FC Sparx started brightly and scored through Hussain Ali and would have been two up if not for a wasted penalty kick. However, as the game progressed Curtorcares stamped their authority on the proceedings with two fine goals by Melwin Fernandes who has a knack of finding the net from odd angles and another by Godwin Fernandes to ensure Curtorcares went home with three points. Man of the match was Melwin Fernandes and he received his award from Firoze Sheikh. The match was officiated by Edward and he was supported by Clitus and Rafi on the lines.
It was the Pires show all the way as table toppers and the only team to have won all their matches so far, Kuwait Goans Association beat Skynet Miracles 3-1 in the second match of the day. Skynet Miracles started well and took the lead through Diago Dias and were really unfortunate to have at least three tries come off the cross bar.
However, the tide turned in KGA favor when Bernardo Pires equalized through a wonderfully taken free kick from just outside the penalty area leaving Michael Pereira flabbergasted in the Skynet goal. Pires added another in the second half and the dangerous Rafeeq put the game beyond Skynet Miracles with a fine goal in the second half. Bernardo Pires was the man of the match and he received his award from Braz Pires. The center referee was Robert Bernard and he was assisted by Dylan and Karim on the lines.
Steven Rodrigues ensured Goa Maroons shared the honors with AVC Sports & Cultural Association with a fine glancing header in the dying moments of the game to level the scores to 1-1 in a game where both teams had their chances. AVC took the lead in the 10th minute of the second half through Gladston Antao and when it looked like it was enough to give his team full points to get their faltering campaign back on track, Goa Maroons piled on the pressure with Steven Correia, Roshan and Regi Rodrigues defending well from the back and playing the long ball to the Maroons forward to finally equalize just before the final whistle. Man of the match was William Colaco of AVC and he received his award from Mr. OK Razak of Blasters Kuwait. The center referee was Jerry Mello and he was assisted on the lines by George and Sameer on the lines.
Man of the match Agnelo Quadros was in the thick of the action, scoring two fine goals as Don Bosco Oratory easily overcame DHL FC 5-0 in a largely one sided last match of the day. DHL FC who have found the going tough this season, were no match for the fluent passing of DBO with Loyed Mascarenhas, Cleto and Philip Durate creating numerous chances from the flanks. Cleto Gomes, Prajot and substitute Kennedy Ferrao scored one each to take DBO to second position in the league. Agnelo Quadros who has impressed this season, was the man of the match and he received the award from Mr. Roy from Indian Strikers. Referee Victor Andrade was assisted by Rafi and Agnel on the lines.
