Judge Renews Detention Of Top Moi Official In Human Peddling Case
The detention renewal judge decided to continue the detention of the Assistant Undersecretary for Training Affairs at the Ministry of Interior, Major-General Sheikh Mazen Al- Jarrah, until Aug 9, pending the case of the Bangladeshi Muhammad Shahid Islam, a.k.a. as Pablo, while the public prosecutor decided to detain 5 members of the so-called Iranian Fouad network for 21 days, reports Al- Seyassah daily.
During yesterday’s session, Al-Jarrah appeared in court head shaved in handcuffs and from behind bars he denied the charges against him — bribery, money laundering and the exploitation of his position while in office.
The court then turned down the request from his defense team consisting of four attorneys to release him on any guarantee citing lack of evidence, stating that the statements from the rest of the suspects were taken under duress some of whom had retracted their earlier statements which were taken during investigations, while the accused ‘Al-Jarrah’ did not retract his statements and has been saying the same thing (denial) since the beginning of the investigations. He particularly denied the charge of bribery.
