Jobs Of Employees Under Threat
The employees who were sent by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) to study abroad and have completed their studies and received academic certificates from universities in some American states might lose their jobs in the government sector, reports Al- Anba daily quoting informed sources.
In a press statement, they indicated that these employees are located in states within the United States of America where there are no offices of the Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC), as these offices were closed following the issuance of the decision to suspend flights of Kuwaiti aircraft. The sources added, “The regulations require those on scholarships to return onboard Kuwait Airways within a period of two months after they complete their studies, as per the conditions of the Civil Service Commission. Otherwise, they will not be entitled to return to the jobs they were working in before they left for studies.
According to the instructions which are now in effect, there is no provision to compensate them for the price of tickets in the event of using any other airline besides Kuwait Airways”. The sources called on CSC to address the Cabinet and find a way to ensure the safe return of these employees in a timely manner in order for them to resume their jobs or compensate them for the cost of the ticket’s return price if they bear it.
In response to a question about the validity of the two-month period after which the person on scholarship loses his job in the government sector, the sources answered, “Yes. The regulations specified only two months as a maximum for the employee on scholarship to return after completing his studies to take up his job”. The sources emphasized the need for the employees on scholarship to adhere to this period, especially since they are not required to bear the value of the return ticket, for which the state is responsible.
The sources said, “This system has been in place for more than 20 years. Any place in the world that the Kuwait Airways does not reach such as Canada, tickets are provided on other planes for the scholarship holders in coordination with cultural offices and the national carrier”.
