Iraqi MP Affirmed That We Will Protect Kuwaiti Borders Assures Basra Protesters
Iraqi MP for Basra Amir Al-Faizi has affirmed that demonstrators in Basra pledged among themselves to protect borders with neighboring countries, including the Kuwaiti-Iraqi borders, reports Al-Rai daily.
He pointed out that coordination between demonstrators led to issuance of orders to withdraw from the arena of demonstrations, which gave opportunity for the government to take decisions to control the security situation. He assured in a press statement the situation of Kuwaiti-Iraqi borders amid the protests; saying “the borders of Kuwait are safe and the residents of Basra at a time they took the decision to withdraw from protests agreed among themselves to protect government institutions and to maintain our relations with neighboring countries including protection of Kuwaiti borders and all neighboring countries.” He said the residents of Basra are ready to defend themselves and they will not allow enemies to prejudice the Kuwaiti-Iraqi relations or with any of the other neighboring countries.
He conveyed a cable of thanks to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Kuwaiti Ambassador to Iraq Salim Al-Zamanan who called him to check on Basra residents. He also thanked the Kuwaitis for their solidarity and support for their Iraqi counterparts.
