Iraq Welcomes Kuwaits Plan To Hold Intl Conf. On Reconstruction

Head of the Iraq Mission to the EU and Iraqi Ambassador in Belgium Jawad Al Hindawi welcomed His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's readiness to host an international conference on Iraq's reconstruction later this year.

"We are very happy of this imitative. We take highly into consideration this imitative by His Highness the Amir of Kuwait," he told a press conference at the Brussels Press Club Friday.

"We expect more cooperation from Arab countries, especially Kuwait, in order to continue fighting the terrorist group the so-called Islamic State not only militarily but also ideologically," he said.

The Iraqi diplomat expressed conviction that the defeat of IS in Mosul is the beginning of a new phase in Iraq and the region, and appealed to the EU to intensify cooperation with the central government in Baghdad to promote political, social, security and economic challenges that are facing Iraq.

Earlier on Monday, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah congratulated Iraqi President Fuad Masum and Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi on the liberation of the city of Mosul from the so-called Islamic State (IS).

His Highness the Amir also announced that Kuwait was ready to host an international conference on the reconstruction of liberated areas in Iraq before the end of this year.

His Highness the Amir made the remark during a phone call with Al-Abadi to congratulate him on the "historic victory" on IS in Mosul.
His Highness the Amir hoped the victory would boost Iraq's unity, security and stability, and lead to the reconstructing of liberated areas, and the return of refugees to their towns and villages.
