Iran: A Magnitude 5.5 Earthquake Strikes The Northeast Of The Country

Iranian authorities said today, Monday, that an earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale hit the (Sunkhost) region of the northern Khorasan province.

The Iranian official news agency (IRNA) quoted the head of the Relief and Rescue Organization of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, Mahdi Wali Pour, as saying that the earthquake had left three injuries so far among citizens.

He added that the preliminary assessments indicate that the earthquake also caused partial losses in a number of villages in the region, indicating that the region was subjected to a series of seismic aftershocks, the most severe of which was 5.4 on the Richter scale.

On Sunday, an earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale hit the port of Kangan in the southern province of Bushehr, without causing any casualties or material damage.
