Mother Heroic Act Saves Three Children From Fire - Uae

An Emirati mother rescued her three children after the air conditioner in their house exploded at Khuzam in Ras Al Khaimah.

Sources at the RAK Civil Defence said the mother, who lost the key of the door, broke the window glass of her children's room to rescue them.

"The room was filled with heavy smoke, but she helped them out without thinking of her safety."

The mother, after saving the lives of her children,  managed to get out of the broken widow in complete darkness seconds before the AC exploded.

The central operations room of the RAK Police dispatched police patrols, ambulances, firefighters, paramedics, and rescue teams to the site in record time.

"Investigations showed that a short circuit caused the fire in the air conditioner of the children's room. The AC gas leaked, filling the room with heavy smoke," an official said.

The burning AC then exploded just seconds after the three children and their mother were out.

The RAK Civil Defence teams immediately cordoned off the house on fire and evacuated nearby houses to ensure people's safety.

"The heavy smoke was first sucked out, and then water and foam were used in putting out the blaze before the flames spread out to the entire house or nearby houses."

The three kids and their mother received first aid after the incident.

"The three kids sustained minor injuries while being pushed out of the broken window glass, while the mother received serious injuries in her shoulder."

"If she was late by a few seconds, she might not have been able to rescue them, herself or even the entire house," officials said.

They said people need to check all electrical supplies and gadgets, particularly air conditioners which are now used for longer hours due to the rising temperatures.

"The ACs working for long hours, bad quality devices, poor electric supplies and lack of regular maintenance are some of the main reasons for fatal fires."

On June 24, 2018, an Emirati mother lost all her children following fire at their villa in Fujairah.

Her seven children aged between five and 13 years were suffocated to death in the wee hours.
