Al-ghanim ,holds, Official-talks , Russian-counterpart
Kuwait’s National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim held on Monday official talks with Speaker of Russia’s Federation Council (upper house of parliament) Valentina Matviyenko.
The two sides reviewed the distinctive Kuwaiti-Russian friendship and discussed ways to boost their cooperation in various fields and at all levels. They also stressed the importance of coordinating stands between them at parliamentary events toward several regional and international issues.
The top lawmakers also agreed to hold periodic meetings on the sidelines of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) conferences for further coordination and consultation. Furthermore, Al-Ghanim and Matviyenko agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding soon on cooperation between the Kuwaiti National Assembly and Russian Federation Council, in addition to forming a parliamentary friendship committee between the two parliaments.
Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti- Russian parliamentary talks addressed latest updates of the situations in the region, including the Palestinian cause, current political turmoil in Syria, Yemen, and Libya, and counter- terrorism. Following the official talks, Matviyenko held a luncheon in honor of Al-Ghanim and his accompanying delegation, and was attended by members of the Federation Council.
The talks were held at the Federation Council headquarters in presence of Kuwaiti MPs Khaled Al-Otaibi, Khaled Al-Shatti, Abdulwahab Al-Babtain, Kuwaiti Ambassador to Russia Abdulaziz Al-Adwani, and a number of Russian MPs. Al-Ghanim and his accompanying parliamentary delegation arrived in Moscow on April 20 for a three-day official visit under Matviyenko’s invitation.
In the meantime, Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim concluded on Tuesday a three-day official visit to Russia, which was upon an invitation from Chairperson of the Federation Council (upper house of the Russian parliament) Valentina Matviyenko. He was seen off by Kuwait’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation Abdulaziz Al-Adwani and the diplomatic staff of the embassy.
Al-Ghanim, leading a parliamentary delegation, held talks with Matviyenko and Deputy Chairman of the State Duma (lower house) Sergei Neverov. The delegation grouped MPs Khaled Al-Otaibi, Khaled Al-Shatti and Abdulwahab Al-Babtain.
