Interior Ministry Sell 29 Sniffer Dogs At Auction
The Ministry of Interior sold 29 sniffer dogs during a public auction in the presence of representatives from the Finance Committee, the concerned departments and a large number of Kuwaitis last Thursday, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Despite the cost which exceeded about 100,000 dinars when the dogs were brought in, they were sold for only 6,000 dinars. The auction was held after the expiry of service of use of these sniffer dogs, which belong to the Tracking Department and the Private Guards and Prison Security departments.
The sale price ranged between 20 and 360 dinars for the most expensive dog of the Malinois family – a medium-to-large breed of dog, sometimes classified as a variety of the Belgian Shepherd dog rather than as a separate breed – three years old.
The source added, despite the expiry of their service and low level in the detection of drugs, explosives and other work because of the weak sense of smell that wanes with age, but they are fully trained to guard homes and establishments and control riots and protect people.
It was interesting to see a large number of kennel enthusiasts and the competition was intense among them to win dogs that showed skill and ability to do various things during the test. The dogs sold at the auction were between two-and-a-half years old, the youngest, up to 10 years old, the oldest.
