Infrastructure To Be Ready By 2021 For Use Of Electric Vehicles In Kuwait

31 December 2018 Kuwait

Widespread use of electric vehicles in Kuwait is expected to start in 2021 once relevant government bodies finished the final draft of the bill for the electric vehicles project, and logistics, such as infrastructure and charging outputs, are discussed. The project is currently being discussed at the Public Authority for Industry, said sources familiar with the project. The sources added that the study was still in preliminary stages, noting that charging outputs should be built according to GCC standards. Further, the sources highlighted that both the Ministry of Electricity and Water and Kuwait Petroleum Corporation have shown full support in terms of building the infrastructure needed for recharging. The sources also explained that once the final draft was ready, it would be further studied in all GCC states before sending it to the GCC specifications committee, then the technical council, then to be approved by various GCC states before submitting it to GCC ministers of commerce for approval and notifying the concerned manufacturers.
