India: Jealous Lover Brutally Stabs Girl To Death In Full Public View
A 20-year-old girl studying in third year of engineering was brutally murdered in day light by the boy she had met over Instagram about six months ago.
The incident in Guntur district left the people of Andhra Pradesh in deep shock as such attacks on girls, specially by spurned lovers, have registered a rise in the state.
According to Guntur District Superintendent of Police Arif Hafeez, Nallapu Ramya was stabbed repeatedly by 22-year-old Sai Krishna at Kakani Road in Guntur and the incident was captured on CCTV camera.
“Based on the footage as well as witness accounts the accused was arrested from nearby Narsaraopet town of the district,” he added.
On seeing the police approaching him, the accused tried to commit suicide by slashing his hand but he was taken to a local hospital and later moved to Guntur city.
The girl belonged to Amarataluru village, while Sasi Krishna was from Mutuluru village in the district.
According to the police, Sasi had discontinued his studies after 8th standard and worked in an automobile shop for some time.
Sasi Krishna developed friendship with the engineering student after they met on Instagram and were regularly in touch.
However, Sasi became suspicious that the girl was seeing someone else.
On the fateful day, the two had an argument at a public place as the boy was forcing her to go with him. Twenty minutes later, he returned on a motorbike and attacked her with a knife stabbing her on the neck and in the stomach. He fled the scene, leaving the girl in a pool of blood. By the time onlookers took her to Guntur government hospital, she died.
Though the incident had occurred in full public view, nobody came forward to restrain the attacker and save the girl.
State Home Minister M Sucharita also visited the hospital and met the family members of the girl.
State Director General of Police Gautam Sawang said that the incident was unfortunate and police will see that the culprit was punished. “I urge the people not to give a caste or political colour to the incident. For the police, safety and security of all the women is a top priority.”
State Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy expressed shock and grief over the incident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs1 million to the girl’s family.
