Increasing Crime Rates In Abbasiya Becoming A Major Concern For The Indians
Increasing crime rates in the Indian populated areas such as Abbasiya in Kuwait are becoming a major concern for the Indian expatriates. Many incidents have been reported in the past few days, especially in Abbasiya area where large number of Indians are living. The latest incident reported was an attack against an Indian male nurse working in Faiha clinic near the Subway restaurant in Jleeb. As per report, he was walking home after parking the car in a ground opposite to the Subway restaurant and a gang of youngsters attacked him with stones while trying to steal his purse.
Last week, a gang of Arabs tried to hit an Indian, Mr Subbaraj from Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu with their vehicle while trying to steal his money. This incident happened near Bhavans School. The attackers impersonated as police officers asked for his civil id. While trying to show the civil ID, the goons took the purse from him and ran over their vehicle on him. There was also reports where these gangs took away the handbag of a lady near Best Bakery in Abbasiya. Even though, most of the incidents are happening after 9:00 pm, similar incidents are reported in the day time also.Â
There is an increasing demand from the public that Indian Embassy should get involved in these issues and persuade the authorities to increase the police outpost in this area. Residents in Abbasiya also ask for increasing police patrol in the area especially in the evening time. Several Indian associations are requesting the Indian Embassy to take initiative for the safety and security of the expatriates living in this area.
