Increased Global Demand Delays The Arrival Of The Oxford Vaccine Batch
As plans are proceeding to accelerate the pace of vaccinations, health officials revealed that the Ministry is intensifying efforts to officially approve Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines, Al Qabas reported. These additions to the list of approved vaccines will help to speed up community immunity in the coming months.
Regarding the latest developments in vaccines and vaccinations, officials confirmed that the ministry had not received, until yesterday afternoon, any notification from the AstraZeneca Company regarding the arrival of the third batch of the Oxford vaccine to the country, and one of the reasons is the increase in global demand for vaccines is delaying the arrival of this batch to the country.
Officials emphasized that the increase in positive swabs taken from citizens and expats recently has become a source of concern for medical staff, compared to late last year. This is especially since the monthly rates of swabs are almost consistent and close since last January, pointing to the importance for the public to continue to follow health protocols until the curfew stages are eased and some activities resume after Eid Al Fitr.
A troubling sign
Commenting on the rise in the infection rates to the number of swabs which was 19.20 percent the day before yesterday, officials emphasized that this percentage is a worrying indicator, calling for the need for double caution to limit the spread of the covid-19 infection. They also stress the need to adhere to the health regulations and avoid contact.
They indicated that the rapid drive-through coronavirus testing centers are working to test those who come into contact with positive cases, in coordination with the public health services in the health centers in various areas. They explained that the ministry is working to contain the virus according to an integrated plan by conducting epidemiological investigations and increasing the number of swabs and expanding to various sites and regions.
