In Kuwait, Dh529.43m Spent On Tobacco Products In 9 Months

KD 43.7 million (Dh 529.43 million) was spent on tobacco products by Kuwaitis and expats in the first nine months of 2021, according to local media.

In Kuwait, people spent Dh142.60 million on tobacco products during January to March, Dh183.73 million during April to June, and Dh205.96 million throughout July and September.

During the first nine months of 2021, tobacco exports reached Dh13.70 million.

Kuwait's economic costs associated with smoking amount to Dh278.9 million. Indirect costs associated with lost productivity are also included due to early mortality and morbidity, as well as direct costs related to healthcare expenditures.

According to reports, tobacco harmfully affects Kuwait's health, economy, and spirit. Tobacco consumption causes more than 1,700 deaths each year. The report notes that 470,000 adults (15 and older) and more than 4,000 children under the age of 14 use tobacco every day.
