Imprisonment And Fine For Parents Who Refrain From Child Vaccination

The Ministry of Health waved the penal sanctions included in the Child Protection Law, which impose prison and fine on a guardian who refuses to vaccinate his children against diseases.

The head of the Child Rights Protection Office at the Ministry, Dr. Mona Al-Khwari, stressed the importance of the child receiving vaccinations and immunizing him with protective graft during the specified dates, noting that the duty to provide the child for vaccination or immunization rests with his father or mother, or the person the child is in his custody.

Al-Khwari explained, in a statement to Al-Rai, that the criminal punishment against a person who refuses or does not initiate to vaccinate his child, according to the regulations and instructions issued by the competent medical authorities, is clear, as Article 83 of the Child Protection Law 2015/2015 stipulated that “without prejudice Any more severe penalty stipulated by another law shall be punished by imprisonment for a period not exceeding 6 months, and a fine not exceeding one thousand dinars, or one of these two penalties, each guardian, guardian or legally responsible for the care of the child, who has not initiated immunization with vaccinations, vaccines and vaccinations against infectious and childhood diseases in accordance with the regulations And instructions issued by the competent medical authorities ».

She pointed out that, “after some cases were received by the office during the previous periods, some guardians refraining from vaccinating their children with the specified dates, in October last year and after the approval of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, the Office of Public Health instructed the managers of preventive health centers that when parents refrain On vaccinating their children by the specified dates, they are informed of the articles of the laws stipulated by the Child Protection Law, and they are given a period of 14 days, and if they continue to refuse, the office is addressed with providing the child’s information and the guardian so that the necessary work can be done.

Al-Khawari emphasized that “receiving the child for vaccinations and vaccinations on the specified dates is a very important matter, and the legislator has attached it special importance in the aforementioned law in order to protect and protect the rights of the child and to preserve his health and safety.” He called on all parents to initiate vaccination of their children on the specified dates, to avoid what This may result in criminal penalties stipulated by the Child Rights Protection Act
