Implementing Fines And Imprisonment Better Option Then Curfews And Lockdown

The Council of Ministers are coming up to implement deterrent measures soon to confront the coronavirus crisis in the country in order to adhere to health measures. Sources believed that penalties stipulated in the communicable diseases law will be activated by adding coronavirus in the list of communicable diseases to which the National Assembly agreed to amend and refer to the government in March.

The sources state that the application of the provisions of the law, which include gatherings and those who intentionally transmit infection by not adhering to health precautionary measures and in order to protect the entire community is the best option instead of resorting to lockdown and curfews. 

In response to the penalties being applied, “Any violation of the provisions of the Communicable Diseases Law or the decisions issued by the Minister of Health shall be punished with imprisonment for a period not exceeding 3 months and a fine not exceeding 5,000 dinars or either of these two penalties, in addition to that for every violation of the decisions or measures mentioned in Article 15 of this law, the perpetrator shall be punished with imprisonment for a period not exceeding 6 months and a fine not exceeding 10,000 dinars or one of these two penalties, reports Al Anba. In addition to the penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of not less than 30,000 dinars, for those who deliberately causes the transmission of infection to another person or either of these two penalties.
