Hundreds Throng Machines At Commercial Centers For Driving Licenses
After the General Traffic Department stopped handing over driver’s licenses at Al-Nasr Sports Club, which delivered more than 54,000 licenses for over more than two months, the Traffic department was flooded with long queues, which is an unworthy sight for the country’s reputation and the supposed technological advancements for providing public services, Al Qabas reports.
The Traffic Department opened to receive applicants for driving licenses in five commercial centers without announcing a specific timeframe or specifying the categories in the designated centers, of the Avenues complex, Al Kout, Marina, Souq Sharq, and Al-Khaima Mall in Jahra. Hundreds of visitors gathered daily at these machines for driving licenses and other procedures.
There was even heavy congestion at Marina complex, despite the efforts made by responsible officers there to hand over the ready licenses to the waiting people, but the increasing numbers rendered those efforts pointless. The crowding also contributed to the growth of the waiting queue outside and below the complex at the car parks. The hot climate, which was exacerbated by the high humidity, worsened conditions for the traffic department workers and visitors leaving them exhausted.
Visitors pointed out that those responsible for the devices in some locations refused to receive applicants despite the absence of these devices, so they were transferred to other sites, which led to the accumulation of visitors from the governorates of Farwaniya, Hawalli and the capital within one complex. In addition, the limiting of accepting visitors from 8 am till 1:30 pm is not sufficient for the visitors, as the work of the automatic machines must be done in accordance with the opening timings of the complex, and visitors should be allowed to take their licenses at any time as the machines are present in a public place.
