How Can People Get High Degrees In A Short Time

25 July 2018 Kuwait

Professor at the Faculty of Business Studies in the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) Dr Mohammad Al-Wattiyan has affirmed that the forged academic degrees disaster is the responsibility of the Ministry of Higher Education.

He pointed out the ministry is supposed to check and evaluate the academic certificates before accreditation, especially in terms of regular attendance and study at the universities as well as following up the annual reports of students from cultural offices under its supervision.

He added he is confident that Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Hamed Al-Azmi will refer erring officials and forgers of certificates to the Public Prosecution. He wondered, “Is it possible that a professor at PAAET obtained a doctorate degree in Physical Education from a Russian university within six months only and a department director acquires a doctorate degree in law from an Egyptian university within a year of scholarship and then appointed at the Faculty of Business Studies?” He also wondered how the MPs and ministers got their doctorate degrees without studying in universities which granted these degrees.

Indemnity
The Ministry of Education has allocated a budget of KD 40 million for the indemnity of teachers who will be referred for retirement soon quoting sources. Sources revealed these teachers include those who reached the legal retirement age, those suffering from disabilities and those who applied for retirement.

The State Audit Bureau (SAB) has criticized the Ministry of Education for failure to collect fine from a company, which hired cleaning and service workers for the ministry’s schools and buildings in Hawally Educational District, proven to have violated regulations, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources.

Speaking to the daily, sources affirmed the bureau highlighted the violation in its periodical report for the last school year – 2016/2017. Sources added the ministry did not collect KD 20,000 fine from a company for the months of September and October in 2016 due to the negligence of the Nutrition Department which failed to provide the supervisory body with copies of the contract and approved bidding conditions.
