Hookah Ban Protested

29 September 2020 Information

About 20 café owners demonstrated peacefully at Ministry of Health headquarters, seeking solution to the issue of ‘hookah’ despite the reopening of cafés, and the continued ban on hookah as a result of which they suffer losses, reports Al-Anba daily. One of the owners of a café said the cafés are facing problems because of the decision to ban hookah in terms of financial losses since the Ministry of Social Affairs has closed most files of cafés owners who serve hookah and to add insult to injury they are unable to renew their licences or renew the work permits of their employees.

Another owner, who did not give his name, said “despite all this, we did not and will not surrender, because this decision does not do justice to us. We will resort to the judiciary because more than 250,000 people in Kuwait are affected.” Another café owner said about 5,000 cafés are affected by the ministry decision and called on the concerned authorities to compensate them.
