Home Provided To Kuwaiti Mother & Daughter Found Living On Streets

25 July 2021 Kuwait

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Community Development responded directly to an appeal made by a Kuwaiti woman and her child through her social media account to save her from what she called ‘spending time on the street’, reports Al- Qabas daily. After the Undersecretary of the Ministry, Abdulaziz Shuaib, received the appeal on July 21, she was provided with housing in cooperation with one of the charities in the country, with follow-up and direct coordination with the Undersecretary for Social Development, Hana Al-Hajri.

The woman was reportedly married to a non- Kuwaiti and according to the video clips in the social media she was literally forced into that marriage or rather ‘sold to the man’ according to her account. She added, her husband neglected his responsibilities towards the family after forcing her to leave her job and allegedly became a drug addict which forced her and her daughter to spend most of their time on the streets of Kuwait after the last curfew was lifted.

She added, her sorry tale ended after a compatriot found her wandering in Salmiya and booked a hotel room for her and her daughter for a day and then appealed to the concerned officials to intervene and rescue her, which actually happened. In a press statement, the Ministry of Social Affairs announced it is serious in its keenness to provide a helping hand and assistance to all groups of needy people, especially the needy families. Commenting on the circulation of the video clip of the Kuwaiti mother and her daughter, the ministry said, in cooperation and prior coordination with the Ministry of Interior, it had taken necessary measures and coordinated with a charity society to provide a helping hand, until government agencies and the concerned authorities resume work, Sunday, to complete the necessary procedures to address this problem.
