Government Should Open Entry Visas For Expatriate Fishermen, Kuwaiti Union Of Fishermen Appeals

29 January 2023 Expats

According to Dhaher Al-Suwayan, head of the Kuwaiti Union of Fishermen, the fishing sector urgently needs expatriate workers.

Al-Suwayan called on the Minister of Interior, Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled, to open entry visas for expatriate fishermen, since the fishing profession involves great hardship and workers are not readily available. As a number of fishing workers left the country and is unwillingness to return, the sector is facing huge labour shortage. Many members of the union have applied for new work permits, however, it is neither rejected nor approved.

The Minister of Agriculture should exclude fishing labor and approve the issuance of new work permits, so that fishing can resume and fish can be supplied to the local market and food security can be maintained.
